Highlights from September RAC and SEAC meetings

Our Committees for Risk Assessment (RAC) and for Socio-Economic Analysis (SEAC) progressed their evaluation of the proposed restriction on PFAS in their September meetings.


Additionally, RAC adopted an opinion on the occupational exposure limit of N-(hydroxymethyl)acrylamide (NMA) to protect workers and eight opinions on harmonised classification and labelling.

Consultation on the proposed restriction of octocrilene

France has submitted a proposal to restrict the placing on the market of finished cosmetic products containing octocrilene in a concentration equal to or greater than 0.001 % w/w.


Have your say until 24 March 2026. 


Our scientific committees welcome early comments by 23 January 2026 to assist them in the preliminary discussions of the proposal.

Testing proposals

We have launched 33 new consultations on testing proposals.

New intentions to harmonise classification and labelling

Two intentions have been submitted for:

  • penoxsulam (ISO); 2-(2,2-difluoroethoxy)-N-(5,8-dimethoxy[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-c]pyrimidin-2-yl)-6-(trifluoromethyl)benzene-1-sulfonamide; 3-(2,2-difluoroethoxy)-N-(5,8-dimethoxy[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-c]pyrimidin-2-yl)-α,α,α-trifluorotoluene-2-sulfonamide (EC -, CAS 219714-96-2)
  • Formaldehyde released from the reaction products of paraformaldehyde and benzyl alcohol (EC -, CAS -)


Drinking Water Directive

 

European positive lists now in ECHA CHEM

The European positive lists under the Drinking Water Directive are now included in our chemicals database, ECHA CHEM.


The information in ECHA CHEM is searchable and can be sorted by, for example, material type. Additionally, users can access other relevant information on substances included in the positive lists, such as some data collected under the REACH or CLP regulations.

The draft agenda of the upcoming meeting of our Member State Committee is now online. The committee will meet during 7-8 October 2025.

Contractor for economics consulting services

We are looking for a contractor to support ECHA in the development or improvement of socio-economic analysis and impact assessment methodology.

Biocides decisions on Union authorisations

The Commission has granted a Union authorisation for:

  • the single biocidal product CLARMARIN® 350 LD
  • the biocidal product family BPF Propan-2-ol Dr Deppe

The Commission has amended a Union authorisation due to administrative changes for:

  • the biocidal product family C(M)IT/MIT formulations
