SMEs to apply for company size validation before making REACH submissions

The European Commission has adopted the revised REACH Fee Regulation. Micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will have to apply for company size validation before submitting their dossiers to benefit from the reduced fees. Standard fees and charges for large companies will increase by 19.5%.

New substance evaluation conclusions published

  • 3-aminophenol (EC 209-711-2, CAS 591-27-5), evaluated by Italy.
  • Butanoic acid, 4-amino-4-oxosulfo-, N-coco alkyl derivs., monosodium salts, compds. with triethanolamine (EC 308-662-5, CAS 98171-53-0), evaluated by France.
  • N-(1,4-dimethylpentyl)-N'-phenylbenzene-1,4-diamine (EC 221-374-3, CAS 3081-01-4) evaluated by Austria.

Guidance on harmonised information relating to health emergency response updated

We have published an updated version of Guidance on Annex VIII to CLP regulation (version 6.0). It clarifies new provisions in the CLP Regulation.

New proposals and withdrawal to harmonise classification and labelling

Three proposals have been submitted for:

  • penoxsulam (ISO); 2-(2,2-difluoroethoxy)-N-(5,8-dimethoxy[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-c]pyrimidin-2-yl)-6-(trifluoromethyl)benzene-1-sulfonamide; 3-(2,2-difluoroethoxy)-N-(5,8-dimethoxy[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-c]pyrimidin-2-yl)-α,α,α-trifluorotoluene-2-sulfonamide* (EC -, CAS 219714-96-2);
  • m-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)-N,N-bis(2,3-epoxypropyl)aniline* (EC 275-662-9, CAS 71604-74-5) and
  • p-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)-N,N-bis(2,3-epoxypropyl)aniline* (EC 225-716-2, CAS 5026-74-4)

A withdrawal has been received for: 

  • methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (EC 202-785-7, CAS 99-76-3)

Consultations on harmonised classification and labelling

We are looking for comments on the harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) proposals for:

  • 1-methylimidazole (EC 210-484-7, CAS 616-47-7); and
  • imidazole hydrobromide (EC 483-310-2, CAS 101023-55-6)

Following the recent update of the QSAR toolbox, we have now published ten video tutorials to help users with the new features of the tool.

 
The OECD QSAR Toolbox is a collaborative project between ECHA, OECD and its member and partner countries. It is used worldwide in hazard assessment of chemicals to avoid unnecessary animal testing.

Survey on health and environmental hazards and risks of surface treated nanomaterials

The Nanotechnology Industries Association and Yordas Group have been contracted by the EUON to undertake a study on the assessment of health and environmental hazards and risks of surface treated nanomaterials.

Biocides decisions on Union authorisations

The Commission has granted Union authorisations for:

  • the biocidal product family '3025'
  • the biocidal product family 'B. Braun Medical Propanol Family'
The Commission has also amended a Union authorisation due to administrative changes for:
  • the single biocidal product 'ClearKlens wipes based on IPA'.

REACH committee meeting this week - draft agenda available

The European Commission’s REACH Committee will meet on 22 and 23 October 2025.
