Have your say in our consultations

Contribute to chemical safety in the EU by submitting your input on our topical consultations.

Our open consultations and calls for evidence with deadlines for comments in January and February include:

  • testing proposals;
  • proposals for harmonised classification and labelling; and
  • potential candidates for substitution and on derogations conditions of biocidal products.

Reminder: Call for evidence on restriction preparation for aromatic brominated flame retardants

Our first webinar this year informs you about the call for evidence on restriction preparation for aromatic brominated flame retardants. Join us on 29 January 2026 at 11:00 Helsinki time.

If you missed any of our webinars last year, you can find the recordings and Q&As on our website.

Biocides

ECHA and EFSA to review environmental behaviour of TFA from biocides and pesticides

We, together with the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), have received a joint mandate from the European Commission to assess the fate and behaviour of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) in soil and water.

The request reflects growing concern about the presence of TFA in the environment, particularly its potential to leach into groundwater and pose risks to human health through drinking water. TFA is a perfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) that originates from several sources, including the degradation of certain plant protection and biocidal products.

Under the mandate, we are tasked with evaluating the formation of TFA from biocides and pesticides, reviewing current study guidelines, and exploring alternative methods for predicting TFA concentrations in groundwater and surface water. The scientific findings are expected to be ready by 1 June 2027.
