Sip, Savor, Celebrate: Asturias' Cider Culture Earns Global Cheers
In Asturias, which UNESCO has recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage, cider is more than just a drink. It is a ritual, a symbol of identity, and a celebration of local heritage. In the Cider Region — Villaviciosa, Colunga, Nava, Bimenes, Cabranes, and Sariego — more than 70 cider mills and apple orchards produce this iconic beverage. Visitors can explore the Cider Museum, join in festivals, or take part in an espicha, a lively event with cider and local food. From the orchard to the glass, cider shows centuries of tradition and skill. Asturias has also teamed up with Galicia and the Basque Country to create the "Cider Routes of Spain," which connects cider traditions in a modern, sustainable way and offers a unique tourism experience across northern Spain.
