Two questions for your AML agenda this autumn

Autumn brings new regulatory expectations, continued pressure to improve efficiency and a risk landscape that keeps changing.

In this edition, we focus on two practical questions that can help AML teams turn change into action.

Sandra Madstedt,

CM1 Business Manager

01

Are you focusing resources on the right risks?

02

Which AML processes still depend on manual work?

INSIGHT 01

AMLR is bringing operational questions into focus

Based on CM1’s initial AMLR GAP analysis, the focus is shifting from interpreting the regulation to operationalizing it. Key areas include KYC, ongoing risk assessment and targeted financial sanctions, including sanctions evasion. Across these areas, expectations are increasing around data quality, documentation and the ability to trace identified risks through to the controls applied and decisions made.

  • Stronger and more consistent risk documentation
  • More timely and risk-based customer reviews.
  • Greater traceability from risk assessment to control
  • More structured assessment of sanctions-related risks

Question for your team

Can you trace your AML controls back to the risks they are designed to address?

INSIGHT 02

Where manual processes still create friction

Manual work does not automatically mean weak control. But where volumes grow, it can increase lead times, create inconsistent assessments and make follow-up more difficult. CM1 can help streamline these processes by supporting structured workflows, clearer documentation and more consistent handling of risk classifications, customer reviews and alert investigations.

Common manual steps

  • Risk classification

  • Periodic customer reviews

  • Alert investigation

Typical consequences

  • Higher operational cost
  • Longer lead times
  • Less consistent documentation

Question for your team

Can you trace your AML controls back to the risks they are designed to address?

WHAT´S NEW IN CM1?

A more adaptable rules engine for transaction monitoring

In June, CM1 launched a new transaction monitoring rules engine, designed to make it easier to design, adapt and maintain scenarios in line with the organization’s risk profile.

  • More flexible scenario design
  • Simpler management of rules and scenarios over time
  • Closer alignment between risk assessments and monitoring controls
  • Greater flexibility as risk patterns evolve.

Take-away

Effective risk-based monitoring is not just about having rules in place. It is about ensuring that monitoring controls reflect the risks the organization has identified and can evolve as those risks change.

PRODUCT UPDATE

Understanding ownership and connections

Insight Map

CM1 Insight Map helps visualise relationships between individuals, companies, beneficial owners and connected parties, making complex ownership structures and connections easier to understand in AML investigations.

Sanctions Control and Ownership (SCO)

Sanctions exposure can extend beyond the customer itself. CM1 Sanctions Control and Ownership supports the identification of sanctions exposure through ownership and control.

Together, Insight Map and SCO provide a stronger basis for mapping and analyzing complex relationships, helping identify sanctions exposure that may not be visible through traditional customer screening alone.

One take-away from Almedalen

Use technology with courage and control

  • Before the summer, CM1 took part in Almedalen and hosted a panel discussion on financial crime and the role of technology. One message stood out: as financial crime becomes increasingly complex, effective prevention requires better collaboration, information sharing and smarter use of technology. Enable secure information sharing and collaboration.
  • Use data and technology to support more risk-based controls.
  • Balance innovation with appropriate control and oversight.

Coming next - Upcoming releases

  • Autumn release: September 29th
  • Winter release: December 8th
The latest release notes are available in the Help section in CM1.
