Im Frühjahr erwarten Sie zahlreiche Fördermöglichkeiten für Ihre Forschungsaktivitäten. Mit dem 1. April rückt eine der beiden Deadlines in der Projektförderung des SNF näher. Sollten Sie Fragen oder Unsicherheiten bezüglich der neuen Massnahmen des SNF haben, kommen Sie gerne auf das Team des Grants Office zu.

Ausserdem möchten wir Sie darauf hinweisen, dass der ERC eine Anpassung der Zulassungszeitfenster für Starting Grant und Consolidator Grant ab 2027 angekündigt hat:

• Neu sind Forschende 0-10 Jahre nach dem PhD für den ERC Starting Grant antragsberechtigt .
• 5-10 Jahre nach PhD kann ein ERC Consolidator Grant eingegeben werden.

Eine finale Bestätigung der Anpassung wird mit der Veröffentlichung des Arbeitsprogramms erwartet.

1. Schweizerischer Nationalfonds (SNF)

JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships 

Das Programm «JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships» ermöglicht Forschenden in der Schweiz einen Forschungsaufenthalt von 12 bis 24 Monaten in Japan. Aufenthalte müssen spätestens am 30. November 2026 beginnen. Der SNF kann zwei Forschende vorschlagen. Gesuche um Nominierung müssen mit den Formularen der JSPS per Mail an den SNF gesendet werden.  

Solution-oriented Research for Development (SOR4D)

Das gemeinsame SOR4D-Programm von SNF und der Direktion für Entwicklung und Zusammenarbeit (DEZA) fördert transdisziplinäre, lösungsorientierte Forschung zur Armutsminderung und Umsetzung der globalen Nachhaltigkeitsziele. Im Fokus stehen systemische Lösungen in den Bereichen Frieden und Gouvernanz, menschliche Entwicklung, Klima, Umwelt und nachhaltige Wirtschaftsentwicklung, die Forschende aus der Schweiz gemeinsam mit Partnern aus dem Globalen Süden entwickeln. Das Programm ist offen für alle Disziplinen. Das zweistufige Bewerbungsverfahren erfordert zunächst eine Projektskizze.

Einreichfrist: 18. Mai 2026.

Investigator Initiated Clinical Trials (IICT) 

Mit dem Förderprogramm «Investigator Initiated Clinical Trials» (IICT) unterstützt der SNF klinische Studien zu medizinisch und gesellschaftlich relevanten Themen, die ausserhalb des Fokus der Industrie liegen. Bereits in der Vorbereitungsphase können bis zu 5'000 CHF für die Involvierung von Patientenvertreter:innen (PPI) beantragt werden. Ein Letter of Intent sowie PPI-Gesuche bilden die erste Stufe des Antragsprozesses.

Einreichfrist: 26. Mai 2026.

Schweizer Wissenschaftspreis Latsis 

Forschende und Institutionen sind eingeladen herausragende Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler im akademischen Alter von maximal zehn Jahren aus den Bereichen Mathematik, Natur- und Ingenieurwissenschaften (ohne Lebenswissenschaften) für den Schweizer Wissenschaftspreis Latsis vorzuschlagen. Nominierungen sind über das Formular der Latsis Stiftung vorzunehmen. 

Nominierungen innerhalb der HSG richten Sie bitte bis 13. März 2026 an research@unisg.ch.

Einreichfrist: 16. März 2026.

BRIDGE Discovery

BRIDGE Discovery richtet sich an erfahrene Forschende. Projekte, die das Ziel verfolgen, das Innovationspotenzial von Forschungsergebnissen zu testen und Produkte, Dienstleistungen oder soziale Innovationen zu entwickeln, werden bis zu vier Jahre gefördert. Anträge können einzeln oder im Konsortium von maximal drei Antragstellenden eingereicht werden.

Einreichfrist: 28. April 2026.

12th South Korea-Switzerland Call for Joint Innovation Projects

Im Rahmen der bilateralen Programme eröffnen Innosuisse und das Korean Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) am 18. März 2026 einen gemeinsamen Call für Innovationsprojekte. Gefördert werden marktorientierte Lösungen in allen Disziplinen, mit Schwerpunkten auf Bio-/Medtech, Digitalisierung, additive Fertigung, intelligente Materialien, innovative Oberflächen, augmented und virtual Reality, Wasserstofftechnologien und erneuerbaren Energien. 

Zur Partnervermittlung und Erläuterung der Förderbedingungen findet am 25. März 2026 ein online Brokerage-Event statt.

Einreichfrist: 30. Juni 2026.

4. Weitere Fördermöglichkeiten

Dementia Research Synapsis Foundation Switzerland

Die «Dementia Research Synapsis Foundation Switzerland» lanciert drei Förderlinien zur Bekämpfung neurodegenerativer Krankheiten. Ausgeschrieben sind Principal Investigator Projects und Career Development Grants im Bereich der Grundlagenforschung, translationaler und klinischer Forschung. Ein weiteres Programm fördert Forschung zur Entwicklung und Validierung digitaler und nicht-medikamentöser Ansätze zur Prävention, Diagnose und Behandlung von Demenz. Alle Programme folgen einem zweistufigen Verfahren mit Einreichung eines Letter of Intent als erstem Schritt.

Holcim Stiftung zur Förderung der wissenschaftlichen Fortbildung

Die«Holcim Stiftung zur Förderung der wissenschaftlichen Fortbildung» unterstützt promovierte Wissenschaftler:innen aller Disziplinen von maximal 35 Jahren, die einen Bezug zur Schweiz aufweisen, weitere Qualifikationen im Hinblick auf eine Habilitation oder Berufung zu erreichen. Gefördert werden insbesondere Vorhaben, die zur Bewältigung gesellschaftlicher Probleme beitragen oder durch neuartige Methoden und Fragestellungen die wissenschaftliche Entwicklung vorantreiben.

Einreichfrist: 30. April 2026.

Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) - Postdoctoral Fellowships

Das «Human Frontier Science Program» (HFSP) fördert internationale, interdisziplinäre Forschung in den Lebenswissenschaften. Long-Term Fellowships

für Postdoktorierende aus der biologischen Forschung sowieCross-Disciplinary Fellowships für Forschende aus fachfremden Disziplinen bieten die Möglichkeit ein innovatives Projekt in einem neuen Land zu realisieren. Das zweistufige Bewerbungsverfahren startet mit der Eingabe eines Letter of Intent.

Germaine de Staël

Das Programm «Germaine de Staël» fördert im Auftrag des Bundes den Austausch innerhalb französisch-schweizerischer Forschungspartnerschaften. Mit bis zu 4'500 CHF pro Jahr können schweizerische Teams bei der Finanzierung von

Forschungsreisen nach Frankreich unterstützt werden. Es steht allen Disziplinen sowie sämtlichen schweizerischen Forschungseinrichtungen offen.

Lebensqualitätslabel - Wettbewerb der Dalle Molle Stiftung

Die Dalle Molle Stiftung verleiht jährlich das Label «Lebensqualität» an Projekte, die mit Forschungs- und Innovationsaktivitäten im Bereich Informatik und Künstliche Intelligenz zur Lebensqualitätsverbesserung in der Gesellschaft beitragen. Im Zentrum steht die Förderung von Innovationen, die gesellschaftlichen Herausforderungen mit humanistischen Werten begegnen und menschliches Wohlbefinden und Freiheit auf originelle Weise adressieren. Das Preisgeld von 10'000 CHF soll die Weiterentwicklung und Umsetzung des Projekts unterstützen.

Numerous funding opportunities for your research activities await you this spring. One of two deadlines for project funding from the SNSF is approaching on 1 April. If you have any questions or uncertainties regarding the new measures introduced by the SNSF, please do not hesitate to contact the Grants Office Team.

We would like to point out that the ERC has announced an adjustment to the eligibility windows for Starting Grants and Consolidator Grants from 2027 onwards:

• Researchers who have completed their PhD within the last 0-10 years are eligible to apply for an ERC Starting Grant.
• An ERC Consolidator Grant can be applied for 5-10 years after completing a PhD.

A final confirmation is expected with the publication of the work programme.

1. Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF)

JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships 

The programme “JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships” enables researchers in Switzerland to stay in Japan for 12 to 24 months. Research stays need to start at the latest on 30 November 2026. The SNSF can propose two researchers. Applications for nomination must be sent to the SNSF by email using the JSPS forms.

Solution-oriented Research for Development (SOR4D) 

The joint SOR4D programme run by the SNSF and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) supports transdisciplinary, solution-oriented approaches that contribute to reducing poverty and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. It focuses on systemic solutions in the areas of peace and governance, human development, climate and environment, and sustainable economic development, which researchers from Switzerland develop together with partners from the Global South. The programme is open to all disciplines. The two-stage application process requires a project outline first.

Submission deadline: 18 May 2026.

Investigator Initiated Clinical Trials (IICT) 

The SNSF supports clinical studies on medically and socially relevant topics that are outside the focus of industry with the funding programme “Investigator Initiated Clinical Trials" (IICT). Up to CHF 5,000 can be requested during the preparatory phase to involve patient and public representatives (PPI). A letter of intent and PPI applications are the first step in the application process.

Latsis Swiss Science Prize 

Researchers and institutions are invited to nominate outstanding researchers with a maximum of ten years academic seniority in the fields of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering (excluding life sciences) for the Swiss Latsis Prize. Nominations must be submitted using the Latsis Foundation form. 

Please send nominations within HSG to research@unisg.ch by 13 March 2026.

2. European funding

ERC Plus Grants

The highly competitive ERC Plus Grants go beyond regular ERC grants. A total of 30 researchers of any age and nationality will get the chance to conduct an overly ambitious project within seven years with seven million Euros funding .

Submission deadline: 2 September 2026.

Towards an ERC Advanced Grant: From Groundbreaking Idea to Successful Proposal

The mERCury network is organising an online event on the ERC Advanced Grant. The event will guide participants from shaping a groundbreaking idea to an understanding of the evaluation process. The programme includes insights from ERC Scientific Officers and Panel Member as well as experience reports from grantees. Registration is open until 25 April 2026.

3. Innosuisse

BRIDGE Discovery

BRIDGE Discovery is addressed to experienced researchers. Projects with the aim of testing the innovation potential of research results and developing products, services or social innovations can be funded for up to four years. Applications can be submitted individually or by a consortium of maximum three applicants.  

12th South Korea-Switzerland Call for Joint Innovation Projects

As part of the bilateral programmes, Innosuisse and the Korean Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) will launch a joint call for innovation projects on 18 March 2026. Funding will be provided for market-oriented solutions in all disciplines, with a focus on bio-/medtech, digitalisation, additive manufacturing, smart materials, innovative surfaces, augmented and virtual reality, hydrogen technologies and renewable energies. 

An online brokerage event will be held on 25 March 2026 to facilitate partner matching and to explain the funding conditions.

4. Other funding opportunities

Dementia Research Synapsis Foundation Switzerland

The "Dementia Research Synapsis Foundation Switzerland" is launching three funding lines to combat neurodegenerative diseases. Principal Investigator Projects and Career Development Grants are open in the areas of basic research, translational research and clinical research. Another programme supports research on the development and validation of digital and non-pharmacological approaches to the prevention, diagnosis and care of dementia. All programmes follow a two-stage process, with the submission of a letter of intent as the first step.

"Holcim Stiftung" for the Advancement of Scientific Research

The "Holcim Stiftung" for the Advancement of Scientific Research supports PhD graduated researchers of all disciplines up to the age of 35 who have a connection to Switzerland to achieve further qualifications with a view to obtaining a habilitation or professorship. In particular, it promotes projects that contribute to solving social problems or advance scientific development through novel methods and questions.

Submission deadline: 30 April 2026.

Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) - Postdoctoral Fellowships

The "Human Frontier Science Program" (HFSP) supports international, interdisciplinary research in the life sciences. Long-Term Fellowships for postdoctoral researchers in biological sciences and Cross-Disciplinary Fellowships for researchers from other disciplines offer the possibility to conduct an innovative project in a new country. The two-stage application process begins with the submission of a letter of intent. 

On 25 March 2026, a webinar will provide further information.

Submission deadline: 5 May 2026.

Germaine de Staël 

The fundinge programme "Germaine de Staël" promotes French-Swiss research partnerships on behalf of the Swiss Confederation. Swiss teams can receive up to CHF 4,500 per year to fund research trips to France. It is open to all disciplines and all Swiss research institutions.

 
Submission deadline: 12 May 2026.

Quality of Life Lable - Competition of the Dalle Molle Foundation

The Dalle Molle Foundation annually awards the "Quality of Life" label to projects that contribute to improving the quality of life in society through research and innovation activities in the field of computer science and artificial intelligence. The focus is on promoting innovation that deals with social challenges with humanistic values and addresses human well-being and freedom in an original way. The prize money of CHF 10,000 is intended to support the further development and implementation of the project.
