Sparmassnahmen des Bundes: SNF passt Förderung von Forschungsprojekten ab 2026 an

Aufgrund der geplanten Budgetkürzungen in Folge der Sparmassnahmen des Bundes passt der SNF sein Förderprogramm an. So werden beispielsweise die Förderprogramme Spark und SPIRIT ausgesetzt. Im Allgemeinen wird  die Anzahl der geförderten Gesuche sowohl in der Projektförderung wie in der Karriereförderung reduziert. Weitere Anpassungen und Informationen finden Sie auf der Website des SNF.

SNF Starting Grants 2026

Das Call-Dokument für SNF Starting Grants 2026 ist online. Die Ausschreibung richtet sich an junge Wissenschaftler:innen, die ein unabhängiges Forschungsprojekt mit einem eigenen Projektteam an einer Schweizer Forschungseinrichtung leiten möchten. 

Informationsveranstaltung: 19. Februar 2026, 10.00-11.30 Uhr.

Einreichfrist: 5. Mai 2026.

Biodiversa+

Die Europäische Partnerschaft Biodiversa+ hat die Ausschreibung 2025 mit der Gesuchseingabe über den SNF veröffentlicht. Ziel ist es, innovative Forschung zu Massnahmen für die Wiederherstellung der Funktion, Integrität und Vernetzung von Ökosystemen zu fördern. Gesuche können eines oder mehrere folgender Hauptthemen behandeln:

• Festlegung von Zielen und Wirkungsmessung
• Übertragbarkeit und Skalierbarkeit von Massnahmen zur Wiederherstellung der Natur
• Resilienz und Nachhaltigkeit der Wiederherstellungsanstrengungen

Der zweistufige Bewerbungsprozess erfordert zunächst eine Projektskizze.

Einreichfrist: 7. November 2025.

Water4All

Die internationale Initiative Water4All fördert Forschungsprojekte mit dem Fokus auf Lösungen zur Verbesserung der Wasserqualität und Reduktion von Schadstoffen unter Berücksichtigung von Gesundheitsaspekten und Massnahmen der Risikominderung. Gesuche müssen mindestens eines der folgenden Themen behandeln:

• Schadstoffe im Wasser und Gesundheitsrisiken
• Innovative Tools und Technologien zur Überwachung von Wasserqualität und Exposition
• Wasseraufbereitung und Expositionsminderung 

Im zweistufigen Bewerbungsprozess ist zunächst eine Projektskizze gefordert.

Einreichfrist: 13. November 2025.

QuantERA 2025

Das Förderinstrument unterstützt die europäische Forschungszusammenarbeit im Bereich der Quanten-Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien. Internationale Konsortien mit Forschenden aus mindestens drei der 29 teilnahmeberechtigten Länder können Gesuche zu «Quantum Phenomena and Resources» oder «Applied Quantum Science» einreichen. Antragstellende aus der Schweiz stellen ausserdem ein administratives Gesuch beim SNF.

3. Innosuisse

Projektausschreibung Innowwide

Innowwide unterstützt innovative KMU und Start-ups aus der Schweiz mit Zuschüssen von 60’000 EUR bei der Bewertung der Durchführbarkeit von Forschungs- oder Geschäftsvorhaben auf internationalen Märkten. Gefördert werden sechsmonatige Projekte in Zusammenarbeit mit einem lokalen Akteur in Afrika, Amerika, Asien oder Ozeanien.

Einreichfrist: 25. November 2025.

BRIDGE Proof of Concept

BRIDGE Proof of Concept richtet sich an junge Forschende auf Master- oder PhD-Ebene und Hochschulabsolvent:innen, die in einem Projekt innovative Produkte und Dienstleistungen entwickeln.

SNIS Call for Projects 2026: «Re-thinking Multilateralism»

SNIS hat die Projektausschreibung 2026 geöffnet. Im Fokus steht das Thema «Re-thinking Multlilateralism». Das Förderprogramm unterstützt zweijährige, transdisziplinäre Forschungsprojekte, die Wissenschaft mit internationalen Organisationen und NGOs verbinden, um politikrelevante Ergebnisse zu erzielen. Gefördert werden Projekte in den Bereichen Governance, Gesundheit, Klimawandel, Migration, Ungleichheiten, Menschenrechte, Biodiversität und Nachhaltigkeit. Das zweistufige Evaluationsverfahren erfordert zunächst eine Projektskizze.

SNIS International Geneva Award

SNIS zeichnet hochwertige, politikrelevante wissenschaftliche Arbeiten mit dem International Geneva Award aus. Die Artikel müssen aus einem der Forschungsbereiche Governance, Gesundheit, Klimawandel, Ungleichheiten, Migration, Biodiversität, Menschenrechte oder Nachhaltigkeit stammen und für internationale Organisationen von besonderer Relevanz sein. Einreichen können Postdoktorierende und Professor:innen von Schweizer Hochschulen und Forschungseinrichtungen (zum Zeitpunkt der Artikelveröffentlichung).

CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholars Program

Das CIFAR (Canadian Institute for Advanced Research) Global Scholars Program bietet die Möglichkeit, zwei Jahre mit führenden internationalen Forschenden zusammenzuarbeiten und so interdisziplinäre Forschungskollaborationen, Führungsfähigkeiten und Netzwerke zu stärken. Die Förderung umfasst zudem 100'000 CAD flexible Forschungsmittel. Bewerbungen sind geöffnet für Forschende mit einer Vollzeitstelle an einer Hochschule oder Forschungseinrichtung.  

Einreichfrist: 5. November 2025.

Azrieli International Postdoctoral Fellowship 2026-2027

Das Azrieli International Postdoctoral Fellowship unterstützt Forschende, ein Projekt in Zusammenarbeit mit führenden Wissenschaftler:innen in Israel durchzuführen. Bewerber:innen benötigen einen akademischen Sponsor an einer israelischen Hochschule.

Early Career Award 2026

Der Early Career Award der Schweizerischen Akademie der Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften zeichnet drei herausragende Artikel von Schweizer Nachwuchsforschenden aus, die in einem wissenschaftlichen Publikationsformat veröffentlicht wurden. Individuelle sowie kollaborative Eigenbewerbungen sind über das Online-Portal der SAGW zu stellen.

1. Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF)

Federal budget cuts: SNSF to adapt its research funding from 2026

The SNSF is adjusting its funding programme due to the planned budget cuts of the federal government. For example, the Spark and SPIRIT funding schemes will be suspended. In general, the number of funded applications in both the project funding and career funding will be reduced. Further adjustments and information can be found on the SNSF website.

SNSF Starting Grants 2026

The call document for the SNSF Starting Grants 2026 is online. The call is aimed at young researchers wanting to lead their own independent project and team at a Swiss research institution.

Information event: 19 February 2026, 10:00-11:30.

Biodiversa+

The European Partnership Biodiversa+ has published the 2025 call via the SNSF. The aim is to foster innovative research to promote the restoration of ecosystem functioning, integrity, and connectivity. Proposals may address one or more of the main topics:

• Setting restoration targets and measuring success
• Transferability and scaling of nature restoration efforts
• Resilience and sustainability of restoration efforts

The two-stage evaluation process first requires a pre-proposal.

Submission deadline: 7 November 2025.

Water4All

The international initiative Water4All supports research projects that focus on solutions for improving water quality and reducing contaminants, taking into account health aspects and risk mitigation measures. Proposals must address at least one of the following topics:

• Waterborne contaminants and health risks
• Innovative tools and technologies for water quality and exposure monitoring
• Water treatment and exposure mitigation
• Governance, socio-economic innovation, and policy integration for water and health

The two-stage evaluation process first requires a pre-proposal.

Submission deadline: 13 November 2025.

QuantERA 2025

The funding instrument supports research collaboration in Europe on quantum information and communication sciences and technologies. International consortia composed of researchers from at least three of the 29 eligible countries can submit applications on "Quantum Phenomena and Resources" or "Applied Quantum Science". Applicants from Switzerland must also submit an administrative application to the SNSF.

2. European funding

ERC Consolidator Grant 2026

The ERC Consolidator Grant Call 2026 opened recently. The funding is aimed at researchers of any nationality and discipline 7-12 years since completion of PhD and with a promising career, and who wish to consolidate their independence and build or strengthen a research team. Projects must be conducted at an institution in an EU Member State or an associated country. Researchers from Switzerland are eligible to apply.

Introduction to Horizon Europe

Euresearch is offering an online event for researchers and innovators, providing an overview of the different parts of Horizon Europe and showing how to get access to the funding.

Information event on Horizon Europe Calls 2026

Euresearch is also offering guidance on the Horizon Europe Calls 2026 in an online event. The main topics in each cluster will be presented, as well as cross-cluster thematics of AI, Circular Economy, and social sciences and humanities. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage directly with thematic experts.

From Theory to Practice: Proposal Writing Training

Euresearch is organising a training in Bern on writing successful collaborative proposals. It is aimed at researchers and innovators who are preparing to submit a Horizon Europe Pillar 2 (Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness) proposal and who have identified a possible topic of interest.

Innowwide Call for Projects

Innowwide supports innovative SMEs and start-ups from Switzerland with grants of € 60,000 to assess the viability of research or commercial plans in international markets. Funding is available for six-month projects in cooperation with a local actor in Africa, America, Asia or Oceania.

BRIDGE  Proof of Concept

BRIDGE Proof of Concept is aimed at young researchers at Master or PhD level and recent graduates who are developing innovative products and services in a project.

SNIS Call for Projects 2026: "Re-thinking Multilateralism"

SNIS has opened the Call for Projects 2026. They focus on the topic “Re-thinking Multilateralism”. The funding programme supports two-year, transdisciplinary projects that connect science with international organisations and NGOs to produce policy relevant results. Projects in the areas of governance, health, climate change, migration, inequalities, human rights, biodiversity and sustainability are eligible for funding. The two-stage evaluation first requires a pre-proposal.

SNIS International Geneva Award

SNIS honours high-quality, policy-relevant academic papers with the International Geneva Award. Articles must come from one of the research domains governance, health, climate change, inequalities, migration, biodiversity, human rights or sustainability and must be particularly relevant for International Organisations. Submission is possible from post docs and professors at Swiss Institution of Higher education and research (at publication time).

CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholars Program

The CIFAR (Canadian Institute for Advanced Research) Global Scholars Programme offers the opportunity to work with leading international researchers for two years, thereby strengthening interdisciplinary research collaboration, leadership skills and networks. The grant includes 100,000 CAD of flexible research funding. Applications are open to researchers with full-time positions at a university or research institution.

Azrieli International Postdoctoral Fellowship 2026-2027

The Azrieli International Postdoctoral Fellowship supports researchers in carrying out a project in collaboration with leading scientists in Israel. Applicants need an academic sponsor at an Israeli university.

Early Career Award 2026

The Early Career Award of the Swiss Academy of Social Sciences and Humanities aims to support researchers by recognizing three outstanding articles that have been published in an academic publication format. Individual and collaborative self-applications must be submitted via the SAGW online portal.
