Today, we would like to let you know that there are still a few spots available for our information session on various funding opportunities (September 16, 2026, from 3 p.m.) in Rapperswil .
For early-career researchers with PhD, it’s also worth taking a look at the ERC Starting Grants these days.
We especially recommend the HSG Open Science Grants to researchers at HSG who are interested in open science (deadline: September 15, 2026).

Newsletter content:1. Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF)The Project Funding scheme enables qualified researchers to independently carry out projects on topics and research objectives of their own choosing. Researchers can apply for funding to cover research costs and staff salaries as well as expenses related to scientific cooperation, networking and communication; however, they cannot apply for their own salaries.
Submission Deadline: 1 October 2026 AmbizioneAmbizione grants help researchers from Switzerland and abroad enhance their scientific profile and become scientifically independent early in their career with a project of their own for a maximum of four years. Researchers holding non-professorial academic positions at higher education institutions are also eligible to apply.
Submission Deadline: 3 November 2026 Scientific Exchanges
The SNF contributes toward travel and living expenses for scientific events such as conferences and workshops. Research stays by Swiss researchers abroad or by researchers from abroad in Switzerland are funded for a duration of 1 to 6 months.
Submission Deadline: anytime (at least 4 months in advance) FLARE 2025-2028: call for proposals 2026
On behalf of SERI, the SNSF organizes the FLARE programme. It aims to facilitate the development and operation of research infrastructure for major international projects in particle physics, ground-based astrophysics and astroparticle physics during a timeframe of one to two years.
Submission Deadline: 16 November 2026
Amendment to the Implementation Regulations for SNSF-Funded Projects: conscious travel
The SNSF is supporting sustainable travel in funded projects through an amendment to its implementing regulations: Researchers are encouraged to choose more climate-friendly options, particularly trains instead of planes - even if this results in higher costs. Additional costs for overnight trains or hotel stays resulting from longer train journeys are also eligible for reimbursement. The changes took effect on September 1, 2026.
ERC Starting Grant
Starting Grants are intended for talented early-career researchers up to 10 years after PhD and may be awarded for a period of up to five years and for a grant of up to 1.5 million EUR. Potential applicants should contact the Grants Office.
Submission Deadline: 14 October 2026 Raw Materials Partnership for the Green and Digital Transition: call for European projects
The new European Partnership RAMP supports research and/or innovation projects that contribute to a sustainable supply and efficient use of raw materials. The SNSF is joining this transnational initiative. Projects are encouraged to adopt inter- and transdisciplinary approaches.

2026 Flagship call: Resilient and Secure Technologies for Defence and Mobility
The Flagship call for proposals focuses on three complementary technology areas that are strategically relevant to defense, safe mobility, and the protection of critical infrastructure. The goal is to identify interdisciplinary solutions that make a measurable contribution to Switzerland’s resilience and technological sovereignty.
Submission Deadline: 27 October 2026
Eureka Biotech Call - Network Projects September 2026
The Biotech Call for Network Projects is dedicated to foster biotech-related cooperation between the listed countries. Project applications with clear innovation content and implementation plans in biotech are welcome. The amount of funding available depends on the type of organization applying.

4. Other funding opportunitiesSDSC National Call
The Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC) focuses on health, climate, energy, the digital society, and research infrastructures—however, data-driven projects from all fields that have a societal impact are also welcome.
Submission deadline: 19 September 2026 (Collaboration & Expertise Request submission) 6 November 2026 (Full proposal submission) W4-Change Award (Wissenschaftsverbund Bodensee)
The Change Award recognizes initiatives that have had a significant social impact on the four-country Lake Constance region—in the fields of business, culture, education, civil society, politics, and public administration. Eligible applicants include consortia comprising universities and industry partners, as well as individual researchers whose projects have brought about tangible change and strengthened the region’s future viability.
Submission Deadline: 30 November 2026
The Branco Weiss Fellowship - Society in Science
The fellowship is designed to support postdoctoral researchers after their PhD and before their first faculty appointment for up to five years. Researchers (also current PostDocs) who pursue unconventional projects outside the mainstream of science may apply.
Submission Deadline: 15 January 2027 Open Science Grants
The University of St.Gallen invites submissions for the “HSG Open Science Grant”, a funding programme designed to support projects that strengthen open, transparent, reusable, and reproducible research and teaching practices at HSG. Applicants may request an amount between 1,000 CHF and 5,000 CHF for a period of up to 12 months.

6. Additional informationInformation event: Landscape of funding instruments
On Wednesday, September 16, 2026, starting at 3:00 p.m., the Grants Office St. Gallen will host an informational event in Rapperswil to provide an overview of various funding opportunities. The event consists of three informational sessions, each of which can be attended individually, and a closing reception. Participation is free; there are still a few spots available.
