Job Shadowing for PhD researchers & postdocs

Prepare your next career step by shadowing a professional position. Apply for a job shadowing position between 1 July and 5 September 2025 (11 p.m.). The actual job shadowing will take place between 6 and 17 October 2025.

Interested to explore a career field and experience a typical day (or more) on the job? Want to check if you fit in a particular position or organisation? Job Shadowing provides a better (and nuanced) understanding of the skills and competencies needed to succeed and thrive in a particular job.

Dive-into-PhD

Have you recently started your PhD and are you looking for additional support regarding e.g. FWO fellowship applications? Then the Dive-into-PhD training programme, organised by Research, Innovation & Valorisation Antwerp (RIVA) is something for you!

The training programme consists of several workshops - from project writing to proposal defence - between June 2025 and October 2026.

Eos Pipet Finalist

Eos, the science magazine, in collaboration with the 'Jonge Academie', annually presents the Eos Pipet award to a young and promising researcher in Flanders. With this award, Eos aims to highlight science and technology and make it more accessible to the general public. For this edition five finalists have been selected, including Naoual El Yattouti, PhD researcher at UAntwerp (Faculty of Law). Her research focusses on the right to religious freedom and non-discrimination of health care providers. You can vote for Naoual to help her win the Audience Prize of this competition! Deadline: 31 July 2025.

Registration is free for PhD researchers, but the number of free places is limited.

How to exploit uncertainty in research

This symposium aims to inspire and connect people from diverse fields by bringing together problem owners and solution providers. Throughout the day four keynote talks will focus on the theme of uncertainty in research. These will be alternated with poster sessions, where all participants are encouraged to present their work. The symposium is primarily aimed at PhD and postdoctoral researchers in engineering, data science, and (applied) mathematics, but participants from all disciplines are very welcome.

Creative advanced socio-legal research methods

During a three-day training early-career legal scholars will be provided a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of advanced socio-legal research methods and methodologies. Through a combination of expert-led keynotes and hands-on workshops, participants will explore innovative approaches, including participatory and creative methods.

The training is open to (prospective) PhD researchers and postdoctoral researchers.

Inspiration day participatory research

On 18 September, our university will host an inspiration day (in Dutch) to highlight the importance of participatory research. Participatory research strengthens the links between science and society and thus promotes trust in science. The aim of this inspiration day is to connect colleagues engaged or interested in this matter, show the university's expertise and listen to needs and wishes.

ADS courses: New registration procedure

From academic year 2025–2026 onwards, the registration procedure for

ADS courses in SisA will undergo a few changes. Instructions are published on our website with reference to the helpdesk for a more detailed explanation.

In August, all PhD researchers will receive a separate email regarding

these changes - so be sure to keep an eye on your student email inbox.

All details will also be included in the September edition of this newsletter.
