Stress management for doctoral researchers

From 1 until 30 June doctoral researchers can sign up for an individualised stress-management programme, more specifically six individual counselling sessions, in July/August. In these sessions, the nature and signs of stress are discussed, personal energy givers and drainers are identified, and ways to find a better emotional balance are discussed. Forms of relaxation or mindfulness are actively sought to better cope with stress peaks. This programme is offered by STIP. You can find more information on the Studentportal of UAntwerp.

International mobility grants

The Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) aims to be the leading funding partner for researchers in Flanders. Check out all their international mobility grants! In most cases, you first have to apply for an FWO travel grant before you can make use of your educational credit for scientific trips abroad. More info on the ADS website. Preparing your PhD thesis?

💡Good practice: include the date of your public PhD defence on the final version of you PhD thesis, and not just the year! Include this on the title page and the cover of your thesis.

You can use our Word templates (available in Dutch and English) to design your thesis. There is also a LaTeX/Overleaf template available. You can find the templates and rules regarding layout on the ADS website (under Rules layout PhD thesis).

Webinar: Conveying messages with graphs

Widely used in research to analyse and communicate data, graphical displays are still poorly mastered by researchers, who frequently display their data sets in a suboptimal way (and popular software does not exactly help). This online lecture on Friday 6 June, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., discusses how to select the right graph for a given data set and a given research question, how to optimise this graph to reveal the data, and finally how to phrase a useful caption.

Creative advanced socio-legal research methods and methodologies training

Registrations are now open for the Advanced Training in Creative Socio-Legal Methods and Methodologies, taking place from 15 to 17 September at the University of Antwerp. This three-day training offers PhD and postdoctoral researchers in law the opportunity to delve into innovative, interdisciplinary research methods. The focus lies on creative and participatory approaches that explore law as a social phenomenon, with attention to diverse contexts, including the Global South.

Linear Mixed Models Course

On 16 and 18 June, the FBD faculty, BIOMINA and StatUa organise a course on Linear Mixed Models, aimed at researchers in the life sciences. These models are ideal for analysing non-independent data, such as repeated measurements or clustered data. The course combines theoretical explanation with practical exercises and applications to biomedical and genomic datasets. Basic knowledge of R, RStudio, and statistics is required. Registration is free of charge.

Spillages at home are usually harmless, but in the workplace they can pose serious risks to people, the company, and the environment. The online spill management webinar, on June 27, 10 a.m. - 11.30 a.m. teaches employees how to handle leaks safely using DENSORB® emergency kits. It helps participants respond effectively in case of an emergency.
