Building for the future with Kerto LVL: Hands-on training in Bolzano

How can wooden buildings be built efficiently, durably, and with high airtightness? These questions will be addressed in the hands-on training “Theory in practice – LVL”, organised by Rothoblaas  in collaboration with Metsä Wood on 17 September 2026 in Bolzano, Italy. The training is aimed at professionals who want to deepen their understanding of design, installation, and material performance in timber construction.

During the course, we will assemble a complete section of a Kerto LVL timber building, from the foundations to the roof structure. The practical phases will be integrated with theoretical explanations that provide the essential for understanding structural behavior and the basic principles of thermal and moisture performance in Kerto LVL-based timber buildings.

Cedric Lecomte, Development Manager from Metsä Wood Technical Customer Service, will demonstrate how the properties of Kerto LVL can be utilised throughout all construction phases to enable precise prefabrication, modular systems, and durable, energy-efficient buildings.

A key feature of the training is the close integration of theory and practice. Participants experience typical construction processes, learn to identify potential sources of error at an early stage, and become familiar with proven technical solutions for achieving high-quality results. In addition to the technical content, there will be plenty of opportunities for discussion and networking.

The training fee of €250/350 includes accommodation.

Metsä Conservation Foundation was offered more than a thousand hectares of forest for conservation

How can valuable forest areas be preserved in the long term, beyond government programmes? This is exactly the mission of the Metsä Conservation Foundation. It supports forest owners in permanently protecting biodiverse forest areas, based on voluntary participation.

The first application round already shows strong interest: more than 1,000 hectares of forest have been offered for protection – from Lapland to South Savo, ranging from small plots to large forest areas. A total of 85 forest owners have participated, with particularly high engagement in the northern regions of the country.

“The strong interest shows that many owners are willing to take responsibility,” says Shaheena Turak, manager of Metsä Conservation Foundation. Established in 2025, the organisation complements existing conservation programmes and aims to preserve the diversity of Finland’s forests together with its partners.
