The clean transition is about collaboration

Based on connection surveys and estimates, electricity production and consumption will grow significantly by the end of the decade in Finland. Vicinity to electricity networks is a competitive advantage when looking for locations for production and industrial investments. It is worth contacting the grid company early on, as building networks takes time. Municipalities are responsible for town planning and the necessary permits – crucial factors in the energy transition.

The grid is expanding at pace – where and why?

There are currently a huge number of grid connection inquiries in Finland. Fingrid's SVP Jussi Jyrinsalo says that the grid and connections will be built where the project permits are in order and construction can begin. Investments are needed in the grid as well as in the distribution and regional networks.

Fingrid’s Financial Statements Bulletin and Annual Report for 2024

The development of Finland’s main electricity grid continued vigorously in 2024. The need for electricity transmission and grid connection continued to grow rapidly, and Fingrid’s grid investments increased to a record level. Overall, 2024 was an excellent year in terms of both internal and external metrics.
