Why is the transmission grid not extended to the sea in Finland?
Fingrid treats all connection applicants equally. In accordance with the Electricity Market Act, a connection line serving a single customer is the responsibility of the connecting party and is therefore not part of the transmission grid. Extending the transmission grid to the sea would, in practice, constitute a subsidy at a single generation technology.
The addition of the world’s largest sand battery to the Vääksy district heating network and Enico’s domestic battery solutions show that the reserve market now includes more than just large industrial loads. It is about smart trading and technological leadership.
Fingrid will lower the balance service fees for balance responsible parties from July 1, 2026. The reason for the decrease is due to lower costs of power system reserves.
With artificial intelligence taking over routine tasks, people can focus on work that requires expertise. At Fingrid, AI makes work smoother and supports the operation of the power system. At Helen Group, an energy group, it is already an integral part of everyday business.
This year, Fingrid will participate in several energy events and fairs, and hold customer events almost weekly in the form of live events and webinars. The most important of these, Fingrid Current, will be held on 3 September this year for invited guests and streamed live to viewers online.
This year's Fingrid Current will focus on electricity adequacy and the development of the main grid. We will also hear the latest updates from the transmission system operators of Estonia and Denmark. The event will take place on site for invited guests, while a live webcast will be available for anyone wishing to follow it remotely.
