The European Economic and Social Committee invites you to follow the online public debate

On 1 January 2026, Bulgaria became the newest members of the euro area following a long process of convergence. To celebrate this milestone in the history of Bulgaria and of the euro area, the Section for Economic and Monetary Union and Economic and Social Cohesion (ECO) of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will organise a public debate to discuss Bulgaria's road to the euro, its prospects as part of the common currency area, and the outlook for the euro area in a world of geopolitical challenges, inflationary pressures and economic uncertainties. As Bulgaria prepares to adopt the euro, the EESC's ECO Section examines what the monetary union delivers in practice. Drawing on two decades of eurozone experience, we explore whether the euro's institutional design adequately serves diverse economies and how civil society can ensure that the monetary union benefits citizens broadly.

Le 1er janvier 2026, la Bulgarie devient membre de la zone euro à la suite d’un long processus de convergence. Pour célébrer cette étape importante dans l’histoire de la Bulgarie et de la zone euro, la section «Union économique et monétaire, cohésion économique et sociale» (ECO) du Comité économique et social européen (CESE) organisera un débat public sur le cheminement  de la Bulgarie vers l’euro, ses perspectives dans le cadre de la zone monétaire commune, et les perspectives de la zone euro dans un monde de défis géopolitiques, de pressions inflationnistes et d’incertitudes économiques. Alors que la Bulgarie se prépare à adopter l’euro, la section ECO du CESE passe en revue les résultats concrets qu'offre l’union monétaire. S'appuyant sur deux décennies d'expérience de la zone euro, nous examinerons si la conception institutionnelle de l'euro répond adéquatement aux besoins d' économies diverses, et comment la société civile peut garantir que l'union monétaire profite aux citoyens.
