Your first semester as a postgraduate student at King’s is nearly here! To help you get off to a strong start, we’re sharing some key resources and tips to support your studies, including how to develop your academic skills, build your employability and find your community.

Prepare for your studies

Starting or returning to university is an exciting milestone in your academic journey. It can feel daunting, but don’t worry! King’s offers plenty of support to help you settle into student life.

Your study essentials

Follow the steps in Accessing your IT account & connecting to the King’s Wi-Fi network to get set up ready to study.

Then find out about the software and systems you’ll use in your studies on Student Services Online (SSO). Whilst you’re on SSO, check out our article What equipment do I need for my studies?, which outlines essential equipment, financial support options and guidance for disabled students on accessing specialised equipment. 

Build your skills for success

Once your IT account is set up, enrol in two key courses to help you prepare for university: the Essential Digital Skills Programme introduces key learning platforms like KEATS and Microsoft 365, while Academic Skills for Learning helps you to build the study skills you’ll need to succeed at King’s.

Discover more about how Libraries & Collections can support you throughout your student journey. You can also learn how to access library resources for your subject, including using library search and reading lists, with Library Guides.

After Welcome, download the King’s Student app for easy access to everything practical, like your timetable, email and Student Records, as well as to receive important University news and opportunities to connect with the King's community. Keep an eye on your inbox for more information about how the app can support you.

You can also keep up to date with student life at King’s, including seeing content directly from your peers, on the Student news webpages and our fortnightly newsletter, sent directly to your inbox. Look out for your first edition coming later in January!
