You will have already received an email from us with your Temporary Campus Access Pass, and we’re now emailing to update you on how to collect your student ID card.
If you’ve already collected your student ID card, please disregard this email.
You can also find more information about collecting your student ID card on Student Services Online (SSO).
The process for collecting your student ID card depends on your nationality, as below:
I’m an international student who does not hold British or Irish nationality
Before collecting your student ID card on campus, you must ensure that you’ve completed the following stages of enrolment. For more information, read our article I’m a new student, how do I complete enrolment? on Student Services Online.
The enrolment email will have been sent to the email address you supplied when making your application to study at King’s. If you can’t locate the email or believe it might have been sent to an email address you can no longer access, please contact us with your student number, which can be found on your offer letter.
- Stage 1: Online enrolment. As part of your online enrolment, you’ll be asked to upload a photo for your student ID card. Please see our article How do I upload my photo for my student ID card? for instructions and requirements in relation to format, quality and size, as well as guidelines on acceptable ID card photos. If your photo isn’t suitable for identity verification, you’ll need to provide an alternative or have your photo retaken at the collection venue.
- Stage 2: Essential training. Login to Student Records https://mykcl.kcl.ac.uk, go to ‘My Training’ on the right-hand side and you’ll be asked to follow further instructions to complete your essential training courses, including our ‘Keeping Each Other Safe’ series and your Health and Safety induction. Important to know: we’re aware of a technical issue affecting account creation for our training platform, which can delay access to your essential training. It can take up to five working days after you’ve completed stage 1 of your enrolment for your account to be set up. If you’re still unable to access your essential training after five working days, please contact IT.
- Stage 3: Right to Study check (for students who do not hold British or Irish nationality). The Right to Study check ensures that international students hold an appropriate immigration status to study in the UK. Even if you hold settled status or have an indefinite right to remain, you’re still required to complete the Right to Study check.
How do I collect my student ID card?
You must complete your Right to Study check as soon as you arrive in the UK. To do this, you’ll need to complete stage 1 of enrolment, then login to Student Records https://mykcl.kcl.ac.uk with your K number and password, selecting the ‘Right to Study check’ tab at the top of the screen.
It usually takes two working days for the Visa Compliance team to review your documents and process your submission. However, complex cases may take longer.
Once you pass the Right to Study check, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a link to book a time slot for collecting your student ID card.
Student ID card collection slots are available in person from 09.30 on weekdays only, with collection dates depending on your level of study:
- Undergraduate and postgraduate taught students: Monday 14 September – Tuesday 13 October 2026
- Doctoral students: Monday 14 September – Friday 16 October
We recommend collecting your student ID card during the week commencing Monday 21 September, when you’ll have the widest choice of collection slots and locations.
There is no postal option.
Please ensure you collect your student ID card at the time you have booked, or the service may not be open.
What do I need to bring with me?
To collect your student ID card, you’ll need to bring the following:
- Your student ID card collection slot booking confirmation email
- Your Right to Study check confirmation email
- Your passport (not a scan or photograph), so we can confirm your identity. For more information, read our article What proof of identity do I need to provide to collect my student ID card?
We recommend you download copies of the emails onto your phone for easy access.
I hold British or Irish nationality
If you’re a dual national (you hold British or Irish nationality and the nationality of another country), you should follow the process below.
