Dear Student,

Travelling to a different country, let alone to a city like London, can feel as exciting as it is daunting. But big changes are good, and this is about to be one of the best experiences of your study journey so far!

I’m Akshara and I’m currently an undergraduate student at King’s, here to tell you more about being an international student in London.

I know this can be a confusing time, so I’m sharing my top tips for new international students.

During your time here as a study abroad student, you’ll have the chance to make lasting friendships, live through memorable experiences and discover opportunities you didn’t even know existed. Exploring a new country can be challenging, but you’ll be in good company with countless international students going through similar journeys. Embrace the diversity and support within the King’s community to make the most of this adventure!

Before we get too ahead of ourselves, we have to remember that all great stories start at the beginning. As part of Welcome to King’s, check out International Student Welcome events to meet other international students, feel part of the King’s community and find out more about life in London.

Important to know: these sessions are in addition to the mandatory Welcome sessions held by the Global Mobility team, which you’ll receive further information about soon. Keep an eye on your inbox!

In this email:

Joining International Student Welcome events on Campus

Join our in-person International Student Welcome events, with a variety of social activities and sessions on staying safe in London, how to get around the city and top tips to make the most of your time at King’s and in London.

You’ll also be able to attend a Welcome Hub where you can meet a range of services to help you get set up in London. From banking to healthcare to on-campus food outlets and IT services, visa advice, study skills and support, it’s a great place to get you started.

At the end of the day, there will be a Q&A panel featuring current students and staff ready to answer your questions about studying at King’s and life in London. Afterwards, you can join us for a boat tour along the River Thames to see the city’s sights!

I can’t attend on 10, 18 or 19 September

If you can’t attend the International Student Welcome sessions, don’t worry! We’ll be recording some of the online sessions for you to watch in your own time. There will also be plenty of other events to meet your peers and to find out more about the services available at King’s in your first few weeks.

Check out events on the Welcome to King’s app.

Support for international students

King’s College London Students’ Union (KCLSU) International Students’ Network is here to support you and seeks to empower all international students to feel at ease in being heard and understood.

Finally, one of the most important parts of your move to the UK is to complete your Right to Study check. You need to do this online as soon as you get to the UK by logging into Student Records with your K number and password.

I wish you the very best for the coming year and hope you enjoy being a part of the King’s community!

Best wishes,
Akshara
